The Compass Afghan is a fun and easy project, perfect for those new crocheters looking to challenge themselves and even for seasoned crocheters who are looking for a project they can work on while watching television.

The blanket is made up of 7” x 7” granny squares. You can get 6 -7 squares from one 260 yd skein of yarn. When using 42 squares plus the border, the finished blanket measures 45” Width by 51” Length. You can customize this blanket pattern to make any size blanket you wish from a baby blanket all the way up to a California King!

This easy pattern uses only single crochet and double crochet stitches. The border is made up of the Moss Stitch and adds 2 1/4” to all sides. You can also customize the border to be wider or thinner or you can use a completely different border. The choice is yours!

All of the blocks are made exactly the same, but to get the directional pattern, you simply turn one color of the blocks on its side before stitching.

You will need size 4 medium weight yarn and an H/8 (5.00 mm) and I/9 (5.50 mm) crochet hook.

You can use a different weight yarn to make this pattern, just keep in mind that it will affect the size of your finished square. I recommend using the size hook listed on the package, plus on size less. Use the larger hook for the foundation chain (starting chain) and then use the smaller hook for the remainder of the pattern.
