“Kaga”, flower bud in Japanese, is a V-neck pullover with hi-lo slit hem, Kaga Cardigan and Kaga Shawl are sister designs.
First, the right and left saddle shoulder panels are worked separately with Kaga pattern, then stitches are picked up for the back and front along the panel edges. German short rows are used to shape the shoulders, then the front and back of the pullover are worked back and forth separately to the underarm. They are joined to be worked in the round in one piece, then Kaga pattern is worked over the lower body. The hems are split and worked back and forth. Sleeves are worked top down in the round after the body is finished, with Kaga pattern running down from the shoulder saddles.

Needles
3 mm / US 2½ (for I-cord edge); 40 – 100 cm / 16 – 40” circular needle and double-pointed needles (optional if you use magic loop) ― Adjust cable length to fit sts comfortably.
3.5 mm / US 4 (for body, hem, cuff and sleeves); 60 – 100 cm / 24 – 40” or longer circular needle and double-pointed needles (optional if you use magic loop) ― Adjust cable length to fit sts comfortably.
Adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge (after blocking)
21 sts and 30 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch on 3.5 mm / US 4 needle
21 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Kaga pattern on 3.5 mm / US 4 needle (lightly stretched at blocking to open up lace)
Note: The number of stitches of Kaga pattern fluctuates every 2 rows. Cast on at least 24 sts (3 repeats of Body chart) and measure the stitch gauge at Row 8 or 16.

まず, 左右の肩パネルを Kaga 模様で編み, パネルの縁から前後身頃の目を拾い出す. ドイツ式引き返し編みで肩下がりを付けながら, プルオーバーの前後身頃を別々に脇下まで編む. 脇下で輪に繋げたら, 身頃後半に Kaga模様を入れて編み進み, 両脇裾にスリットを入れる. 袖は身頃を編み終えた後, 肩パネルから続く Kaga 模様を入れながら輪で袖口に向かって編む.
