This shawl is knit from the neck down.
Gauge is of little importance. This shawl can be knit with anything from gossamer to sock weight yarn and be as big or as small as you want. No matter which yarn you choose, I recommend you make a swatch so you have a better idea how big your repeats will be and how the yarn behaves.

The shawl measures approx. 25 x 58in (64 x 148cm) after blocking.
The pattern is charted and I’d consider it to be an advanced knit.

Once again, sorry for this. I tend to take things for granted and forget that what is obvious to me usually doesn’t make any sense to anyone else.

#Mea culpa
13/09/10 new version (1.5) available. I changed the order a few of the charts appear, thus making the pattern more logical. I’ve also included one whole sentence which makes the instructions easier to understand.
There are two edging charts (pages 11 and 14) where a column (first one on the right hand side) from another chart is present. The idea was to illustrate how the various charts go together, but being the “bright” mind I am, I forgot to write it down, causing a few knitters to have a hard time.
I had two amazing test knitters helping me with this pattern, but it is my responsability to proof-read the pattern (as you can see, I did a louzy job). Hopefully the lesson was learnt and I won’t rely on myself for this kind of thing anymore.
Kudos to each one of you who managed to finish this shawl without killing me and my apologies to every one of you who had a hard time figuring it out.
I’m very sorry for all the frustation I’ve caused and hope no one gave up on knitting because of this pattern.

18/09 It was brought to my attention (through a lovely email a few minutes ago - Thank you Ros!) that there are in fact two (2) columns repeated on the chart on page 14. The first two columns on the right hand side of that chart are a repeat of the last two from the chart on page 13.
Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience I’ve caused.
