Syrinx Shells
This cowl is knit with super bulky Malabrigo Rasta yarn and features an elongated Estonian shell stitch that really helps to highlight variegated colorways. The shell stitches are framed by simple lace and cabled edgings. The cowl can be fastened in multiple ways using buttons or ribbon threaded through yarnover holes. It can be made to suit both men and women, depending on yarn color and closure choices, making it a great gift for everyone!
The pattern includes one size that can be adjusted for length and/or yarn availability. As written, the cowl measures 9” (23 cm) wide, 30” (76 cm) long after blocking and uses the entire skein.
Other notions needed are either 47” ( 119 cm) of 1.5” (4 cm) wide polyester ribbon or 2-3 large buttons at least 1” (2.5 cm) wide.
I highly recommend using straight needles for this project as the shell stitch involves multiple wraps that will get hung up on the joins of circular needles.
Many thanks to my test knitters Katie, Jasmine, and Jeremie and to my tech editor, Paula!
