The Dummy Clap Shawl
NOTE: please, please, please, please read the pattern through. I can’t stress enough that the pattern does NOT do the laddering until the last/bind-off row! Please do not email complaints insisting that there is a typo. 50 inches of stockinette really means to do 50 inches of stockinette first. Please watch the video first if you have any questions on that last row.
I have just updated this pattern 1/21/15 with a revised pattern edition AND video tutorial! Lucky ducks…it’s still free.

ABOUT THE PATTERN
This pattern was originally inspired by the infamous “Clapotis” shawl that has diagonal laddering of dropped stitches. It’s a fabulous pattern, but is a little instructionally-intimidating, so in 2008 I came up with a mock-up pattern with a similar effect. The laddering doesn’t slant on a diagonal, but this pattern has minimal instructions with a close-to-same look with instructions so easy you can practically knit it hanging from a tree upside-down while munching on pizza in the dark. If that’s your thing.
Pattern Abbreviations:
St(s)=stitch(es)
BO3=bind off 3 sts
CO1=cast on 1 st
PSSO=pass 2nd st over
RS=right side of work
Stockinette stitch: Knit across on the right side, purl across the wrong side of work.
