Designed for our newest ranch-specific yarn, Ranch 02: Forbes, the Tillage Hat showcases the softness and elasticity of American Rambouillet wool. This hat features the same cable motif as our Tillage pullover — bold cable panels and plenty of gansey-inspired texture — but in a thicker, worsted-weight gauge for a fast and fun knit.

While this pattern was written for Ranch 02, a limited-edition yarn, Tones or Shelter can be used as a substitute for the pattern at the same gauge.

Construction

The hat is worked circularly from brim to crown.

Yarn

• 2 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Ranch 02: Forbes (100% American Rambouillet Wool; 102 yards/50 grams)

• Photographed in Natural

Yardage

• 152 total yards of worsted weight wool yarn

Gauge

• 25 stitches & 33 rounds = 4” in Tillage Chart with Size A needle(s), after blocking

Needles
Size A (for Main Fabric)

• One 16” circular needle and one set of double-pointed (DPNs) in size needed to obtain gauge listed

• Suggested Size: 5 mm (US 8)

Size B (for Ribbing)

• One 16” circular needle, three sizes smaller than Size A

• Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)

Finished Dimensions

• 18½“ [47 cm] circumference (to comfortably fit head sizes 20-23” [51-58.5 cm])

• 8” [20.5 cm] length
