Tincture of Spring Purse
This purse was designed specifically to use up some of my remaining stash of Wildflower DK yarn. The yarn has already been made into two hats, one of my own design, but I still had quite a bit left.
This pattern is easily modified and can be made using any yarn as long as you keep to the measurements you want for the purse size. Use a hook that is larger than recommended for your yarn for a looser design or the size recommended for a sturdier purse. Change the color scheme to pastels or a single color for different looks. It’s also an excellent use for small amounts of yarn that you have left over from other projects.
Symbol crochet chart provided in addition to written instructions. Also included are detailed instructions on measuring for and sewing a lining.
Sample uses a discontinued yarn but any DK weight yarn will work perfectly or adjust to use the desired weight.
Note that if the first round of the handle is too loose for your taste, adjust the number of sc by skipping the sc placed in the sc of the previous row OR add a middle row (the one between the top and bottom halves of the flower) in the same color as the last row of half flowers, then change colors to the handle color and place 3 sc in ea ch-3 sp, 2 sc in ea ch-2 sp, and skip the sc in ea sc.
Also remember that you can shorten the handle following the notes in the pattern. The handle will roll with use but don’t be afraid to change the handle if you don’t like the way it rolls! Be creative!
Errata: Rows 6-8 of bag, Round 1 of handles, replaced sc2tog with dc2tog. PDF fixed evening of 4/26/12.
