Edit 3/14/13 - Some people have wondered if my estimate of 100 grams of yarn per sock is correct. In my experience this is usually enough, but you may want to err on the side of caution and have some extra yarn ready, especially if your recipient has a large foot or long legs. This pattern is all you need to make top-down kilt hose from any yarn for any size body. Really, it’s the pattern I’ve used to make every pair of kilt hose I’ve ever made, it just never existed outside of my head.
