198 yds. of Heaven
Be sure you have the latest version before starting.
198 yds. of Heaven is a neckerchief style scarf, sometimes referred to as a shawlette, and is designed to be knit in a small amount of luxury aran, or worsted yarn.
It is started at the back neck and knit in the direction of the point, in one piece. Increases are done on odd rows at the center and at each end. The scarf has a two-stitch garter edge, and is finished with a scalloped border. The lace repeats are consistent in each row and can be marked off with stitch markers. The pattern includes row by row instructions and charts.
If you want to knit a co-ordinating hat, one has been designed by wendysknitch - and can be found here: Ashwyn Beret.
Although the stitch counts for the lace repeat do not change from row to row, this is an intermediate level pattern, and free, as lace knitting and knowledge of triangle shawl construction is helpful. Although it’s been discussed and recommended as an easy, beginner shawl pattern, it is free and is not meant as a tutorial for shawl construction. Also, it is not written as a full sized shawl. It is a scarf. If you want it bigger, you will have to adjust it with additional pattern repeats. I knit the samples with a single skein of blue Cash Iroha, and Mulberry Cascade 200 on US8 needles. I used all the yarn, so please remember that your mileage may vary. If you knit it with different sized needles and yarn, your scarf may come out bigger or smaller and you may need more or less yarn.
The pattern was initially test knit and has undergone revision to get the border to flow into the bodyof the scarf.
Pattern note: There IS a 4th row in the setup section, so the public side of the shawl is maintained as the odd rows throughout. This is not stated, but assumed with the comments about even rows. Please see the Beginning Lace Knitters KAL for helpful notes.
