The pattern is written for adult men with information for re-sizing to smaller sizes. Any worsted wool or wool blend yarn will make a thick, warm mitten.

10/29/15 Update

After years of people telling me there was an error in the thumb gusset, which I could never find despite re-doing and re-knitting the mitten several times, someone finally pointed out that row 13 had an error in the hand of the mitten. They were correct!

I have fixed this error, and it’s possible this will address what others were seeing as an error in the thumb gusset. I don’t know. I don’t care. I really regret having shared this pattern because the experience has taught me to hate writing and publishing patterns. I tried taking the pattern down and people emailed me to put it back up so I did, but once you download it you are on your own.
