I originally made this pattern for a preemie ward that wanted a crochet pattern for a preemie beanie that was 9.5cm across, but they turned out to be too small. If you use a 3.5mm hook it turns out a little bigger. This is like my Tiny Shells pattern, but a bit easier, with 2 starting rounds of dc instead of the hdc shells.
