My mother loves candles, in every sense. I happen to have a rather large collection of old jars left over from a party and I’ve been struggling to find a way in which to use them.

Eventually (believe it or not, after many a broken jar), I decided to knit a cover for them! I love lace knitting. Not only do I think it’s pretty and effective, I find it nice as I prefer to read charts.

This pattern contains three (yes, three) different lace patterns that I consider to be “beginner”, “moderate”, and “intermediate”, and they can be used to create different looks, depending on your skill level.

It also contains written directions, as well as a chart, to please every type of knitter. The instructions are for in the round for a seamless, easy knit. You can, however, choose to knit this flat and seam together once finished.

I used a needle size smaller than what my yarn called for, as I like tight stitches. My first couple of attempts were pulled quite tight over the jar, meaning that you could see quite a bit of the light through the knitted stitches but I quite liked it! So it is completely up to you to find what style suits you, and how tight or loose you may want it over the jar.
