The Along the Sea Strand mittens are based on a traditional Nordic mitten shape, but with other fun little techniques thrown in too. Starting out with my i-cord cast-on hack (no more elongated stitches in that first round!), there’s a nice cuff before you start in on the stranded colorwork. These use three colors, with the background and cuff colors reversed. The front patterning is based on an old Croatian motif seen embroidered on traditional clothing.

Sizing for these mittens is accomplished by changing needle size and gauge. Smaller or larger sizes are simple to add, as well, by using a lighter or heavier weight yarn and appropriate needles.

Welcome to my oddments project number three! (See the first one here and the second one here.)

I continue to read comments from people overrun with yarn scraps and wanting something to do with them…so I’m going to continue to put these fun little patterns out! This year, I’m focused on wearables for the wrists, hands, ankles, and feet.

They’re different weights and different colors. Some are a full skein. Some are just leftover tidbits, but you can’t throw them away! Definitely not a sweater’s worth of any one color or yarn, let alone a shawl’s worth or even a full pair of socks or mitts. You can’t imagine what to do with them, but you don’t want to part with them. Well then. Ranging from the whimsical to the more traditional, these patterns will be the friends your yarn oddments so desperately need! 12 patterns to breathe life into your scraps and let them be useful once again.

The patterns for this eBook will be delivered to subscribers within a subscription period beginning on 3 November 2023, and ending 31 October 2024, one per month. All patterns will have charts (if needed) and written instructions, and you will be able to make them out of oddments.
