Baby Bluejay
This pattern has been completed overhauled since it was originally published in 2014. The newest version, released November 2015 has been shortened to a very reasonable 6 pages and has been fully tech edited by the lovely Liz Halla-Mattingly to ensure the most enjoyable knitting experience.
The pattern now includes a schematic for your reference and the instructions have been modified to work a ribbed button band that not only gives a cleaner finish, but is also much easier to knit than the original hemmed band. Instructions to neatly finish off the armhole edges are also provided. I hope you enjoy knitting this new version of the pattern!
Baby Bluejay is a charming hooded vest for little boys and girls with great texture and lots of special design features. This is an intermediate knit that requires knowledge of picking up stitches, being able to “read” your knitting in pattern, increasing and decreasing.
This cardigan vest begins with a stable ribbed edge and is knit from the bottom up. After dividing for the armholes, each section is worked separately with shaping for the neck and armholes. The shoulders are created with a 3 needle bind off and then stitches are
picked up around the neck opening to create the deep, cozy hood with a series of increases. Once the hood is bound off, stitches are picked up around the edge and a ribbed button band is worked to finish the piece. A sweet pompom provides the perfect finishing touch, if you so desire.
If you’d like the whole range of sizes 0-12 years old, please check out Bluejay Collection, which includes both patterns for one great price!
