the basic boat neck tank is a boat neck tank top knitted in simple stockinette. the tank is worked from the top down, beginning with the straps. the front panel is worked flat until you reach the underarms, and then stitches are picked up at the straps to begin knitting the back panel flat. the front and back are then joined in the round at the underarms. the rest of the body is worked in the round with waist decreases, and then finished with a folded hem. finally, the armhole and neckline is finished by folding over the raw edges, picking up stitches through the folded edge, and working an applied i-cord.
sizes: xs, s, m, (l, xl, 2xl) 3xl, 4xl, 5xl
designed to fit the following bust measurements: 31, 34, 37 (41, 45, 48) 51, 55, 59 inches / 79, 86, 94 (104, 114, 123) 130, 140, 150 cm, with approximately 10% or 3-5 inches / 7-12 cm of negative ease. you should pick the size that is closest to your bust measurement.
the finished bust measurements for each size are 27.5, 30.5, 33, (37, 40.5, 43) 46, 50, 53 inches / 70, 78, 84, (94, 103, 109) 117, 127, 135 cm.
needles: 2.75 mm circular needles (24 or 32 inch / 60 or 80 cm length) for the body,
2.5 mm circular needles (16 inch / 40 cm minimum) circular needles for the i-cord finishing.
gauge: 28 sts x 48 rows per 4 x 4 inches / 10 x 10 cm in stockinette on 2.75 mm needles, or needles required to meet gauge.
yarn: knitting for olive cotton merino or merino is recommended, but any light fingering weight yarn that meets gauge can be used– use a yarn that contains wool or is a wool blend for elasticity. be sure to make a gauge swatch and check your swatch after blocking.
