Here is a basic slipper sock pattern that can be customized in any number of ways. It’s worked in hdc using aran weight yarn. You can substitute a different yarn, such as a worsted weight acrylic - just check your gauge and adjust the length to make it fit.

The pattern is written for a 6.0 mm hook size. You may need a smaller hook to match the stated gauge: I tend to work fairly tightly, so I have to size up my hook.

This beginner-level pattern is a good way to learn basics of crochet slipper and sock construction. Once you’re comfortable with the construction and the shape, make it your own with embellishments or even a different stitch pattern. Make it your own with buttons, straps, fancy edgings, or other embellishments and show us your version. You can also attach a suede or leather sole to make the sole more durable.

Thanks for posting photos of your own projects!

Update Dec 29, 2014: I’ve updated the pattern with additional sizes, improved shaping and an alternate heel method. I also suggest yarn substitutions if you prefer a more easy-care slipper.
