Who doesn’t like a cute bell lace adorning their toes? This lace ankle sock is knit from the toe up with a short row heel. The front panel is an easy to follow lace pattern. This pattern offers written instructions as well as a chart for the “Bell Lace” available for download, compiled by the lovely Mana Qaadan. It is written for one size, but since the lace is only worked across the front of the sock, adjustments should come easily.
These socks are snug fitting, especially when knit with a natural sock base. Going up a needle size can help add some ease, or as I did, gently wet block your socks and lay them flat to dry.
This is an edit of a pattern I originally released back in 2013. Way before I knew anything about knitting.
Thank you to everyone who skirted around my awful instructions and attempted their own versions of this sock. It has been truly inspiring over the years to see all your socks. I hope this version is a bit easier to follow. Good luck, and happy knitting!

Woman (8-8.5 US Shoe)

Materials
Yarn: 2 mini skeins of Natural Sock Base 4ply by Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co. (50% BFL, 50% Cheviot, 80 yds/73 m -20 g), colorways from Speckled Set.

Needles: US 1 (2.25mm) DPNs or circulars long enough for magic loop method.

Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers.

Gauge
32 sts and 47 rnds= 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch, knitted in the rnd, after blocking.

Finished Measurements
Leg Length from Cuff to the Start of the Heel: 1.5”
Leg Circumference: 8”
Foot Circumference: 8” slightly stretched

UPDATE OCTOBER 2019
This has been a long time coming. After many years of sharing this pattern, I figured it was time to update the pattern a bit. The original has some wonky instructions, but so many of you have been so brave to create your own versions of this pattern.
This new version uses new yarn and some different techniques for the heel, cuff and bind off. Again, it is not perfect, but maybe these instructions might clear up a few issues. I am leaving up both versions of the pattern, for those of you who might like the original. As always, please let me know of any inconsistencies or issues that the pattern might have. Thank you!

UPDATE JULY 2014
It has been a year since I posted this pattern! It was my first try at pattern writing. I just want to thank everyone for being so helpful and kind. As well as a big thanks to all those who download the pattern. It is such a pleasure to know that you all enjoy these socks as much as I do.
So, as an anniversary/thank you present, I have spruced up the pdf file to make it a bit professional. As well as updated the photos.

I have gotten some messages about the “Bell Lace” pattern being incorrect. So, I have posted the pdf file for the original “Bell Lace” pattern. It is not transcribed for knitting in the round. I will try to find and correct any errors (as they are my own, (there is no errata for this pattern). Please keep letting me know what you find.
