Blueberry Pi(e)
This half circular shawl is worked top-down. It is shaped by increases which are concentrated on specific rows. These increase rows are placed farther and farther apart as the shawl grows - a classical “pi” construction.
I worked the shawl in the pictures with a solid colour and two longstriping ones, but the possibilities for variations are endless. A bit like a good basic recipe for a pie.
Size:
Approx.130 cm (51.25”) wingspan x 52 cm (20.5”) depth after blocking. Note that the exact proportions of the shawl are dependant of the blocking – here, I stretched it out a little bit horizontally for a wider wingspan.
Yarn:
Col A : 1 ball of Annette Petavy Design’s fingering weight merino; 100% merino wool; 200 m (220 yds) / 50 g; col damson.
Col B : 1 ball of Crystal Palace’s Mini Mochi, 80 % merino wool, 20 % nylon; 180 m (197 yds) / 50 g; col Tutti Frutti 340.
Col C : 2 balls of Crystal Palace’s Mini Mochi, 80 % merino wool, 20 % nylon; 180 m (197 yds) / 50 g; col Dynamite 342.
Gauge:
The first 5 rows = a “half circle” that measures 11 cm (4.25”) across at the largest place and 5 cm (2”) high (slightly stretched).
