“Growing up I spent many weekends with a quilter Grandmother who worked with a historian collecting oral histories on 19th and early 20th century Vermont quilts. Afternoons were spent rifling through her vast collection of fabric fragments and poring over the patchwork, admiring how patterns and textures can be layered creating a whole much greater then the sum of its parts. This cardigan, like those quilts, doesn’t come from any single point of inspiration so much as it evolved in my imagination. Cables, lace and texture stitches, simple traditional knitting collected and layered on a cardigan with a subtle, folky character.” – Amy Christoffers

CONSTRUCTION

  • Garment is knit from the bottom up in one piece to the underarms; at this point Fronts and Back are divided and worked separately to the shoulders.
  • The sleeves are knit in the round to the underarm, then cap shaping is worked back and forth in rows.
  • Buttonband and collar – each worked in 1x1 ribbing – are picked up and worked directly from the Body of the garment during finishing.
