Experience the beauty of marled knitting with this top-down semi-circular shawl. Gather a collection of fingering weight yarn and hold two strands together for a DK/worsted weight fabric. I used ten colors throughout my shawl, but you can use as many colors as you like. The blended effect with marled knitting is fascinating to knit as you create new color mixtures. Simple stockinette sections are combined with brioche breaks. The brioche ribbed sections help blend the different color combinations together for a fun textured effect. Hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together throughout the entire sweater, resulting in a worsted weight thickness.

Two strands of yarn are held together throughout the entire shawl. The total yardage requirements represent the total amounts of yarn used including both strands of yarn. If you decide to knit this shawl holding one strand of DK weight yarn instead of fingering weight marled, then you will need half of the total recommended yardage.

I recommend casting on the shawl and start knitting to check your gauge. The shawl starts small at the top center, so you can use the beginning of the pattern to compare your gauge to the recommended gauge.

Pattern Notes
In two-color brioche stitch, two rows are worked for each counted row that appears on the face of the fabric. The first color is worked across the row and then the row is worked again using the second color. The next row is worked the same way, once across with the first color and worked again with the second color. When counting rows, count only the stitches going up on a knit column. 2 worked rows = 1 counted row.

When you put down your knitting and forget which color you just used and which color to use next, look at the color of the yo in the row just worked. That is the last color you used.
