Bzzz Hat for Queen Bees
Pattern description from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation: “My roommate likes homemade presents, and before Christmas she was debating taking a class in beekeeping, so I had bees on the brain while trying to come up with a present for her. I’d never even knit a hat before, so getting my first one published is amazing. A friend of mind said, ‘Your beehive had it inspired!’ to which I replied, ‘No, I just copied a beehive.’ The hat has since turned into a group effort. I had help from my friend Lora Power, whose synesthesia dictated the final number of buttons (to her, seven is the same color as the hat). Joe Blair suggested doing the hats in different ‘funky’ colors and getting more stylized buttons so that men would wear them too instead of just buying them for their girlfriends. And Catherine Change (age four) gave them the name ‘Bzzz.’”
