Castilleja Cowl
Castilleja is the genus name for Indian paintbrush or prairie fire - one of my favorite wildflowers. To me, the elongated running-dash stitch pattern resembles the long, tall, yellow & red wildflowers or tongues of flame. Maybe both.
It’ll keep your neck warm in the winter! Also perfect for breezy days at the playground, when a little extra warmth is needed, but little coats just won’t stay on.
This simple pattern is written for a child size small, but quite easily adjustable to whatever size you please. Choose a semi-solid worsted weight yarn that you enjoy against your skin and US size 7-9 needles; gauge is not hugely important.
Child size small has 78 stitches cast on, and measures ~ 19” (48cm) around, lightly blocked; ~6.5” (16cm) tall (depth).
An adult size suggestion, to be worn without double-looping is 120 stitches cast on. Pattern depth is also adjustable with more 10-round repeats added on in the middle.
