Christines' Baby Blanket
The wool was bought in Japan and is called Baby Baby, it is close to a standard 4ply normal baby wool between four ply and sport weights, of course is washable, soft and safe but as for specifics I can only repeat that 15 x 50 gram balls were used on mine which was a 42 inch width by 48 inch length blanket, but with the puffiness of the stitch pattern it is hard to state an accurate measurement.
If you make it you will see that it holds the heat and looks pretty but ‘flat’ sizes are hard to assess, the size of the recipient and the final required size should be borne in mind once an accurate gauge is found.
This blanket was made for the OB Ward on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota USA as you can see on my projects page and so the actual bed size dictated the size I eventually made.
One of the groups I am in is ‘Bundles of Joy’ (BOJ) and the members try to help the people of Pine Ridge.
I used Japanese wool as I liked the colour but I do have it on good authority that the weights are much the same worldwide.
On this page are some blankets that have been completed beautifully by other people and I would like to add that maxala2 was an invaluable pattern tester too.
