Contrapposto
Introducing the ultimate mystery sock! Co-designed by Claire Ellen and Heidi Nick.
Heidi did the top, and Claire did the bottom. We had one shared row of stitches to work from, just a row of k2 p2 rib. We designed it “blind,” not knowing what the other person was doing.
We had a lot of fun with this, and we hope you will, too. To see what we came up with, please join us for a Mystery KAL with prizes and fun, in the Hazel Knits Group on New Years Day.
Clues will be uploaded on January 1, 8, 15 and 22.
Thank you test-knitters! kacylemmon, beachvoliball, thispiggyknits, syntaniel, vanessa0912, chath, crossroadsdemon, terric21
Contrapposto
Contrapposto is an artistic term, meaning to represent freedom of movement within a figure, as in ancient Greek sculpture, the parts being in asymmetrical relationship to one another, usually where the hips and legs twist in one direction, and the chest and shoulders in another. With this sock’s unusual design process and fluid lines wrapping around the leg and slithering over the foot, it seemed to fit well.
Some details:
Top-down
Cast-on choices of 64, 68 and 72 stitches
2.25 needle
Gauge: 8 SPI and 11 RPI
Heel: Gusset increases are centered on the back
Plenty of cables!
The leg design is a mirror image, so 2 sets of charts are included.
