Cozy Baby Coif/Prairie Bonnet
This bonnet pattern is knit using fairly basic knitting skills, and is suitable for a new knitter who wants to practice and develop their skills on a relatively low-stakes project. It is knit both flat and in the round, and contains suggestions on how to modify the pattern for different yarns and stitch patterns as well as a section on techniques used.
Both caps were test knit using Cascade 220 Superwash Sport yarn, and used well under 1 skein. Each “stripe” of colour in the rainbow sample used about 6 meters of leftover yarn, so it is an excellent for using up scraps or test-knitting a new yarn before embarking on a more intensive project.
Skills Used
Garter version: knit, purl, knit two together, picking up edge stitches, casting on, binding off, i-cord
The colourwork version requires additional confidence (or willingness to learn) in joining and working with a second colour and slipping stitches.
