This pattern was custom sized for my own hands, an average adult sized hand.

For the striped and dotted mitten as shown, I used two leftover in my stash, Red Heart Soft. It does not use much yarn if you are using the colour work pattern, and is a practical way to use up leftover yarn. Using Homespun or other similarly weighted yarn would make a thick and warm mitten for those blistery winter days.
