This is my first ever pattern that I have written, so please bear that in mind and do please let me know if I have made any mistakes. I have proof read it several times, but you never know… I’m not a crochet designer, though I wish I’d discovered crochet years ago…I’m actually a jewellery designer-maker and silversmith www.fluxplay.co.uk

After making several great shrugs by talented experienced designers, I really wanted to make a simple, quickish, cheap one for using up some basic yarn I had, so with my newly learned crochet knowledge, I came up with my Custard coloured Shrug. It’s very basic, good for novices, explained clearly, not wildly different…..a straightforward, everyday shrug that would look good with a t-shirt and jeans. I kept a note of what I did as I went along and I pass it on to you to try.

It can be any size, because you take a couple of simple measurements from yourself first. Use any yarn and needle size because all you have to do is crochet until you reach your measurements. I made the Custard Shrug using 4ply and a 3.5 hook and about 150g 750yards approx’ of yarn. It is pictured on my dressmakers dummy, which is set up as a 36” bust on a UK size 12. The edge is a gentle ripple rather than a rib (back loops only) but you can do it ribbed if you want.

Good luck!
