Meet Darwin, a happy, friendly and helpful tortoise.

Darwin was created when someone saw a Hippo I had made using a Heidi bears pattern, and asked if I could make a tortoise in a similar style. Darwin is the result.

This pattern has both options for making all the motifs in full and then joining them piece by piece, or by creating the motifs up to round 4 of the african flower pattern, and then using the join as you go technique. The outcome is the same, but you need to make sure that you read the instructions in full!

A familiarity with Heidi Bears patterns is helpful but not essential.

The type of yarn you use is totally up to you, i have made this using double knit, just make sure your hook is at least 1mm smaller than usually recommended.

The finished size will vary depending on the yarn you use.

errata - square motif instructions - 1. Chain 3 (counts as 1st stitch) , 1 dc in ring , ( ch 1 , 2 dc in ring ) 3 times (not 4 as stated in pattern), chain 1 , slip stitch to top of chain 3. (4 sets of 2dc, chain 1 made)
