Diamonds Twined Knitted Cap
This 16-page pattern creates a richly textured cap with diamond patterns, knitted using the Swedish Twined Knitting technique. The pattern contains illustrated instructions for working the Twined Knit stitch, the Twined Purl stitch, Crook Stitches, and Chain Paths, as well as illustrated instructions and graphs for knitting the cap in three sizes, tips, and ideas for alternate yarn choices.
A few years ago, I picked up a book on Twined Knitting, and began to experiment with the techniques. I was delighted by the deeply textured patterning that this technique creates, and designed a cap using the technique, which was included in the book, 1000 Fabulous Knit Hats. The hat was quite popular, and I soon sold the original prototype. Several have asked for the pattern, and after about a year of working on it, I finally completed it. I hope you enjoy this cap as much as I do!
Twined knitting produces a fabric that is thick, sturdy, and firm but flexible. Some of the twined knitted techniques create a striking texture, while others make a smooth surface. This pattern uses both smooth and textured techniques, for a richly brocaded look.
Skills Assumed: Long-Tail Cast-On, Joining work into a round and knitting in the round on circulars and double-point needles, knit and purl stitch, winding yarn into a center-pull ball. This pattern contains complete written instructions for making the cap, but also includes charts for the patterned areas if you prefer to work from charts.
