I chose contrasting shades of Rowan fine merino yarn, which were perfect for this stripy design. A plain background of DS Stocking stitch, one row knitted in a contrasting colour highlights the structure of Distitch at its best. The elongated legs of Distitch create a striking zigzag.

You can see the hat in this video (time 00:00 - 00:25):

The body of the hat is worked in special Distitch that is very easy to knit in the round. The hat starts with a simple folded hem to provide a good fit and to balance the thick Distitch body. There are no purl sts in this project.
Any aran weight yarn can be used; this merino turned out to be nicely springy, soft and not scratchy.
