The Earth Day Hat was a challenge by the Sunshine Coast (BC) Fibreshed to create something special for Earth Day 2016 (the original was raffled off at an Earth Day event). It had to be created from local fibre in natural colors to be “certified fibreshed” - as a bonus it needed a local and unique design. Also, I only had 4 days before the event to create and knit it (it was left to the last minute--but I probably work best under a deadline anyway!). I was handed some beautifully hand-spun cream-coloured wool in a thick/thin single--and also got some naturally brown fibre to spin as an accent colour. And I immediately pictured this “earthy” hat and got to work.

Notes: Fitting is easy as the band is knit flat first, to any length necessary. The tassel and flower may be added for extra “earthy” appeal.

For my original hats I used approximately 50 grams of the main colour and 25 grams of the contrasting colour.
