This is a “Yarn size doesn’t matter, Hook Size Doesn’t Matter” pattern. Often it’s nice if you use a hook that is ridiculously larger than the yarn would call for – like an N (9mm) hook with fingering weight yarn. (This shows especially well with “haloed” yarns like mohair. See picture)

You can usually make a nice scarf with a 100m skein.
