I offered to make my sister a shawl for her wedding day. After some discussion she decided on a rectangular shape; however, I was already envisioning a centre star burst. This shawl combines both those features. You start in the centre with a circular cast on, knitting the star burst, and then convert the hexagon into a square to knit the sides. The edges are self-trimmed.
There is nothing tricky, although careful counting is necessary for the triangles. The pattern is written for two sizes, small and (large). Pattern instructions are arranged so that numbers for the small size fall first, followed by numbers in parentheses for the large size.
The small size (blue shawl) uses 600 m fingering weight yarn and measures 38 x 178 cm (15” x70”). The large size (grey shawl) uses 1000m lace weight yarn and measures 40 x 190 cm (16” x 75”).
Techniques: Disappearing loop cast on, figure 8 provisional cast on, short rows, crochet chain bind off
