My “FallinLove Collection” was initially designed for handdyed yarn by Vicky Behr from Baerenwolle. Since she no longer dyes yarn, I added the same yarn base from Herbstblatt Regina (my own handdyed yarn ;-D ), which is Hazel Soft Sock 4ply, as well as Witch Hazel 4ply.
This hat pattern is designed for fingering weight sock yarn and available in two sizes. Size Small is for a smaller hat (I have a head circumference of 54 cm and made the hat to fit me). Size Medium is for a bigger hat and also if you want more slouch or the fold-over brim (I can still wear it, but I think it is a little bit too lose for me).
You could easily modify the pattern – for example knit a 2x2 rib instead of the twisted rib. Or use the stitch count for the smaller hat, but make it longer, so you can fold over the brim, if you still prefer a more snug fitting hat. You could even add more purl stitches in between the cables to make an even bigger sized hat. Or you could leave some of the purl stitches out and make a smaller hat.
Yarn: about 60 g of fingering weight yarn/ sock yarn
(Sample: BAERENWOLLE BAERfoot Sock in the colorway “Zimtstange” – in size Small)
Needles: 2.25 mm/US1 + 2.75 mm/US 2 needles (DPNs or you could also use a long circular needle for magic loop)– or size needed to obtain gauge
Cable Needle (I like to use a bobby pin instead ☺), tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers (if needed)
Gauge: in twisted rib pattern knitted in the round
BAERENWOLLE BAERfoot Sock : 1x1 inch = 12.5 stitches x 12 rows
After washing and blocking: 1x1 inch = 8 stitches x 12 rows
The FallinLove Hat is part of a pattern collection designed by Herbstblatt Regina, where you can also knit matching fingerless mittens and a matching cowl.
