This cowl is knit from the bottom up. It begins with the a garter stitch band and then is shaped using short rows and decreases. It ends with a matching garter stitch band. Meant to be fitted it works nicely to fill the gap left by a button up coat or any other jacket. It is beautifully suited to variegated yarns as the short rows disrupt pooling and allow the wonderful colors to be showcased.
