This stranded sock pattern is knitted from the top down. A school of tropical fish swims all the way around the leg and down the instep, while herringbone waves cover the sole. The socks also feature an Eye of the Partridge heel flap and heel turn, a pinstriped gusset, and a round toe.

Sizing is most easily adjusted by changing needle size and working at a different gauge. For a 7.5” foot circumference, use a gauge of 9 spi; for a 7” foot circumference, use a gauge of 9.5 spi

You will need about 100 grams of the MC, and 50 grams of the CC. Other materials include stitch markers (at least 4) and a tapestry / darning needle

Pattern includes detailed instructions, but assumes you already have the general skills required to knit socks (ie casting on, picking up and knitting stitches along the heel flap, grafting/Kitchener stitch) and know how to read charts. There is a link to a tutorial on stranded knitting, and the pattern was tested by knitters with a widely varied range of experience doing colourwork.

i do not specify which type of needles to use – you may choose to work with DPN’s, 2 circular needles, magic loop, or one short circular needle. There is some shifting of stitches between rounds, so you may prefer not to work it 2 at a time.

The charts are the same upside-down as right-side up – if you prefer to knit your socks from the toe up, you should be able to adjust the pattern accordingly without much difficulty.
