Wear it casually as a really big scarf, or on dressier occasions as a classic wrap. Or use half as much yarn and cast on fewer pattern repeats for a more conventional scarf size.

The pattern is written for a DK yarn which is known for its good drape. If you choose to use a substitute yarn, look for one which is relatively lightweight for the yardage and which will give a supple, drape-y fabric. A wool-silk, wool-mohair or wool-alpaca mix would work well. Choose a suitable principal needle size for the body of the piece, and needles 2 sizes smaller for the ribbing. Substituting yarn may of course affect the overall dimensions.

Working a swatch in the cable stitch pattern is recommended in order to test for finished fabric qualities, although gauge is not critical.

The piece is worked flat on circular needles to accommodate the width and weight. A wider or narrower wrap or scarf could be achieved by adding or subtracting stitches at cast-on in multiples of 12.
