This unisex sweater starts with a neutral shade that forms the background for an explosion of bright contrasting colours in the yoke motifs, inspired by the bursting shapes of fireworks. Flugeldar was a design collaboration between my husband and me. He wanted a sweater to salute his Icelandic heritage, and that was modern and colourful, but still wearable for work days. This sweater was the result.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
• 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle 80 cm / 32” (or longer for larger sizes) for body, and a 40 cm / 16” for yoke
• 4.5 mm (US 7) needle in preferred style for working small circumferences in the round (DPNs, magic loop, 23 cm / 9” circular needle, etc) for sleeves
• 3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle 80 cm / 32” (or longer for larger sizes) for hem, and a 40 cm / 16” for neckband
• 3.75 mm (US 5) needle in preferred style for working small circumferences in the round for sleeve cuffs

GAUGE
18 stitches x 24 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in St st in the round on larger needles, blocked.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge!

CONSTRUCTION
The body and sleeves of this pullover are knit in the round from the bottom up to the underarms, and then are joined to work the yoke in one piece. Short row shaping is used to create a more comfortable fit in the back after the yoke is joined in the round.

PATTERN NOTES
Stranded colour work technique is used for the yoke motifs, with some rounds carrying up to 3 strands of yarn at the same time. Keep floats loose in the back to maintain fabric elasticity and for floats longer than 5 stitches, twist yarns together in back. When working the rounds with 3 colours, I have found it easiest to choose one colour that you don’t twist in the back. Just carry it loosely instead. Additional colours are added to the yoke at the end in duplicate stitch. Some knitters have chosen not to work this duplicate stitch, creating a nice simple looking design. Two charts for the colour work yoke are given - one using colour and the other symbols, otherwise they are the same and you only need to follow one. Choose the one you prefer based on personal preference or visual needs.
Different body and sleeve lengths are given for women’s and men’s sizes. Read over pattern before you begin, highlighting all numbers that apply to your size. All lengths are also adjustable.

Notes
