This chunky cowl packs a big style punch with its rich texture and lace detail. Worn as a turtleneck up high or pulled low around your shoulders, this quick knit works up fast enough to make one for yourself and another for a friend. Show off your crafty style by adding your favorite beads.

Finished Size: 17” height measured from neck edge to points along lower edge, 29” circumference at neck edge, 49” circumference at lower edge.

Shown in Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (color #122 Taupe, 3 skeins) and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky (color #3158 Blackberry, 2 skeins)

Needles: Size 13 (9.0mm): 24” circular; Size 9 (5.5mm): 24” circular. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook; 50 yards of scrap yarn in same thickness as project yarn, 2 stitch markers; tapestry needle; 10 beads

Instructions are written and charted.

Notes: This cowl project is worked in a long strip starting with a provisional cast on. The ends are grafted together to form a cowl. If you wish to make a larger cowl, work more pattern repeats.

Pattern correction: Row 7 of the written instructions should read

Sl 1 wyif, k to first marker, k2tbl, k4, yo, k2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2, p1, (ssk, yo) 3 times, k2 – 40 sts.

Row 7 of the chart is correct as shown in the pattern.

Stitch key correction: the symbol for k2tog should read

k2tog on RS, p2tog on WS

Row 14 of the written instructions is correct.

If you need help with grafting in-pattern, I can recommend two video tutorials (links below). The first video will help with grafting the upper section of the cowl (garter stitch graft). The second video will help with the lower section (stockinette stitch graft).
