This quickly knit shawl starts with a simple stocking stitch and eyelet pattern, and then transforms into an all-over lace pattern. As a whole, it resembles leaves growing up a trellis at the beginning of spring. The pattern is a good introduction to reading charts for lace knitting, since the stitch is geometric and easy to follow visually once it’s established. The first few rows are written out to assist those new to reading charts.
