Gefilte, the famous dish of poached fish topped with a slice of carrot, was suggested as the name for this pattern by one of my testers who knitted an excellent sock. It was exactly what I was looking for!

Instructions are included to knit this sock either cuff-down or toe-up. If you are making the toe-up version, use the same colorwork charts, but work from top to bottom if you want the color pattern to appear as shown. The pattern is not truly reversible but can be worked in either direction. The short-row heel directions are the same for both versions.
