In the high desert, flowers learn to bloom whenever there is a little extra water to be had, as though they’re donning their fine clothes in celebration. The Desert Globemallow hereabouts has bloomed more than usual this past short summer, and is - right at this moment - still in a celebratory mood, even though fall has crept into the air and light on the mountainside.

The Globemallow shawl is knit up here using a lovely gradient, but would be just as beautiful in a solid. It’s a satisfying pattern, with a wide triangle top worked in garter stitch, and straight-forward lacy bottom in a stockinette stitch base.
