Going To Church Southern Gospel Shawl is a knitted triangular lace shawl pattern that is knit from the top (neck) down. The lace patterns feature simple, subtle shadowed fan lace on the body of the shawl, graduating into a cathedral church lace, and then finishing in feminine, ruffled faux smocking at the border. It works up best in a fine yarn fiber (I have used Cascade Pima Cotton in Ultra Fine size 2 weight in the Buff color for the body of the shawl, and then tipped the edge with the slightly darker Taupe color for a few rows before casting off-- 5 skeins of 136 yards each of Buff and 1 skein of 136 yards in Taupe), but any yarn can be chosen with varying effects. This pattern includes the written line by line instructions, and also a chart, although the chart is merely a general guideline of what the right half of the body of the shawl looks like in chart form. It can be read easily though with your PDF viewer in an enlarged size. The left half is a mirrored repeat of the charted right half. The border is not charted and is added on after the body of the shawl is worked.
