Green Man Tam
The Green Man stares down at us enigmatically from the capitals and cornices of churches and public buildings across Europe and beyond. Leaves and foliage issue from his mouth and nostrils. Though his origins are lost in the mists of time, what is certain is that he has a key role in our ancient culture. He may represent fertility and bountiful harvest, perhaps, or death and rebirth, corruption and resurrection. Whatever his elusive significance, humankind’s abiding fascination with the inscrutable Green Man has left us with an astonishing legacy of carvings, stone heads, stained glass and paintings, by turns beautiful and sinister. And now… knitwear!
This is a one-size-fits-all pattern, knit bottom up in the round using stranded technique. The tam fits a head circumference of 24 inches/61 cm and is 4 inches/10 cm tall. The crown is 10 inches/26cm across.
