• How’s that? A yarn crawl? Yep - even if you can’t travel, or shops aren’t able to open yet, we’re on: the Slow Crawl is virtual this year, too! That actually means you can join in from anywhere!

This quick little hat reminded me of green gypsum crystals and since we are “rocking the PNW” and celebrating geology, it seemed the perfect name for a hat. With a 1 x 1 rib edge, tiny twisted stitch cables, and a predictable repeat, we think you’ll have tons of fun knitting this hat.

With the combination of knitting stitches used, this hat is fairly stretchy but fits snugly on the head. Don’t be surprised if you feel that the hat is too small while knitting it!

Difficulty Level: Adventurous Beginner

Size: 18, 20, 22 inches (small, medium, large)

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock, 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 440 yards, Color 128 Fresco y Seco, approximately 200 yards used for medium size

Needle: US 4 (3.5 mm) Hiya Hiya Interchangeable circular needles or needle size to obtain gauge

Gauge: 6 stitches per inch (spi) and 9 rows per inch (rpi) OR 24 stitches & 36 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the circumference of the hat as needed. Alter the width as desired.
