I wanted to use sport weight yarn to produce an elegant pair of socks and decided to go for the Austrian cables. I found the cable patterns in Maria Erlbacher’s book Überlieferte Strickmuster aus dem Steirischen Ennstal.

These socks are knitted top-down, beginning with a 3 st i-cord along which sts are picked up. The socks are knitted with a decorative Dutch Heel and a flat toe.
