To me, Dolores Umbridge is one of the most vile characters in the entire Harry Potter series. Her sickening sweetness—as illustrated by all the kittens, floral prints, frothy cardigans, and girly hair bows she surrounds herself with—only emphasizes the vileness of her opinions and actions. When we are first introduced to her, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, she is described as toad-like, and wearing a black velvet hair bow that makes Harry think of a succulent fly. Throughout the series, this hair bow seems to be the least horrendous thing that she ever wears, so I thought I would duplicate it through knitting!

Note on yardage

With the yarn held doubled, you will need approximately 40yds. If you use a thicker yarn held single in order to get gauge, you will need only about 20yds.

Other materials needed

  • stitch marker, or whatever else you use to mark for beginning of rounds
  • 3” long barrette blank
