Karner Butterfly Socks
Inspired by small blue Karner butterflies, Jennifer created an eye-catching design worked first back and forth around the leg. Stitches are picked up and worked down to the toe, with a contrasting color for the heel and toe.
Finished Size 6¾ (7, 7½, 8, 9, 9¼)“ (17 18, 19, 20.5, 23, 23.5 cm) foot circumference and 8¼ (8¾, 9¼, 9½, 10, 10½)” (21 22, 23.5, 24, 25.5, 26.5 cm) long from back of heel to tip of toe; foot length is adjustable. Socks shown measure 7” (18 cm).
Yarn Anzula Squishy (80% superwash Merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon; 385 yd 352 m/4 oz 115 g): teal (MC) and maple (CC), 1 skein each.
Needles U.S. size 1 (2.25 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; waste yarn for provisional CO and peasant heel.
Gauge 36 sts and 54 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st; 31 sts and 56 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Elongated st.
