This is my take on a braid cable, which I’m calling Kirsten after that American Girl doll who had the two long braids, which I used to braid and re-braid over and over. That practice is what really made me good at doing two French braids while standing up on school buses. It was my favorite hairstyle for a long time as a kid.

There’s plenty of ribbing between the cable sets to keep the sock nice and stretchy, which I think is extra important with cables. Construction is cuff down, with heel flap, and gussets. Socks are identical for both feet (although if you wanted to, you could alternate the braid cable so it starts halfway through the braid on one foot, creating a mirror image).

Sock yarn, two 50 gram balls or one 100 gram ball (you will undoubtedly have some left over, unless you choose to make very long socks or you have very big feet). The leg height and foot length are adjustable based on pattern repeats. Since there are big sections of ribbing you could pretty easily size this up or down or adjust the number of stitches if your gauge is off, by changing the number of ribbing repeats. Ribbing also makes the fit forgiving.
