Let’s say you have a romantic date, but he’s going to pick you up from work, and your office frowns on necklines that take the plunge. Here’s your answer: The Lacy Popover. Pop it on, instant demure. Tuck it in like a dickey, or drape it over like a fancy collar. Then stow it in your purse and go.

I made mine in bamboo, because it’s cool (rather than warm) to wear. Bamboo also has a subtle gleam and a lovely drape.

This lacy-looking garment looks complicated, but it’s actually not that difficult because it follows a basic strategy. Once you grasp the strategy, you don’t need to slavishly read from the instructions—you’re off and running on your own.

The bib part uses short rows, but fear not: I’ve charted them to make it easier for you.

Plus, I’ve made the PDF interactive with hyperlinks, which means that if you view it on your computer, you’ll be able to access some nifty video tutorials.
